Umbilical Hernia – a Harmless Form of Hernia – Signs and Treatment
Umbilical hernia is the least dangerous type of hernia and it appears very often at new born babies. It is a harmless illness that develops in the area of the belly-button, or umbilicus. A number of new-born children have a weakness in the muscles located in that area and after they are born and the umbilical cord (the cord through which the mother gives her child all the substances that he needs to survive) is cut off, because of this weakness the muscles give in to the pressure and allow a small opening to appear, through which abdominal content comes out and creates a lump or a bulge.
In some cases babies appeared to feel pain on and around the bulge. Many mothers believe that if they constantly put a coin on the bulge and push it inside it will eventually disappear. No scientific studies were performed to test this method, so it is not known if it works or not. Although most of the umbilical hernia cases appear at a very young age, sometimes the muscles around the umbilicus can fail when the patient has reached adulthood too, if the person in cause is doing work that uses the abdominal muscles a lot and creates the same weakness that babies are born with.
The symptoms of umbilical hernia are represented only by the bulge that appears and nothing more. In most cases this lump pushes itself back inside if the baby is sitting on his back, but when he coughs, sneezes, or stands straight it is very visible.
Umbilical hernia does not require any treatment, it only needs to be kept under constant observation. This is because almost all umbilical hernias heal themselves before the child reaches three or four years of age. If the baby’s bulge is too big it will close itself in a very long time, or it will not close at all, so in these case a visit to the doctor for an advice is needed. If the doctor decides that the umbilical hernia is indeed to big and there also are small chances that it incarcerates (which happens very rarely) then he may recommend surgical treatment. Umbilical hernia is not usually treated through surgery because infants are vulnerable to anesthesia so it’s better to let it close by itself rather than to encounter complications in surgery. However, if the child has passed the age of four and he still has the hernia surgery is recommended and at that age anesthesia is no longer a danger.
Many parents are applying ‘home-made’ tehniques to the umbilical hernia of their child, like forcing it to withdraw by putting adhesive tape on it or by constantly putting a book or a similar object on the bulge. These methods are not recommended and they can cause irritations or infections to the baby’s sensitive skin.
In conclusion, umbilical hernia is a harmless condition that heals itself in 90% of the cases, so the best thing you can do is to get a doctor’s advice and then wait for it to heal without trying to speed up the process with unrecommended methods.

Global Conflict and Inter-Religious Dialogue: The Importance of Understanding Others
As is learned in the study of Comparative Religion, the Avitars (Moses, Muhammad, Jesus, Buddha, Confucius, Abraham and others) had amazingly similar philosophies of belief … centered on Right Action as a path: respect others, think positively, be helpful and be compassionate. It is their disciples, especially in the extreme (and the subsequent dogmas) that have made modern religions unnecessarily complex and adversarial.
And, as time unfolds, more and more of the new generations are seeking other paths for their spiritual comfort. In a local bookstore, the New Age section is double the size of the Christianity section. Actually, I cheer for that circumstance, not as a criticism of Christianity but as testimony for the freedom of choice that the organized religions have given (perhaps unwittingly). It also portends that God is still the quest, but not necessarily reached through the dogmas.
Spirituality does not require a church. Goodness does not require a pew. Compassion and Right Action are part of the Spirit. And if that Spirit can be bridled within all of us, then the work of God is being done. That is the utopia that Inter-religious Dialogue can (and should) promise.
Politicians will tell you that geopolitical influence … the territorial imperative … is the causal culprit for today?s ills. Economists swear that if you trace any problem to its source, you will find money as the reason for the problem. Those are both half-truths. If you carefully study the emotions involved, you may conclude, as I do, that the major factor in today?s conflicts is the intolerance of the belief system of others.

Chlorine Gas Attack by International Terrorists; case study
The Department of Homeland Security has done a very excellent job of spotting potential International Terrorist Plots after 9-11 and in doing so worked hard to prevent such targets from being exploited. Our think tank after 9-11 also has been thinking on this and we identified 20 worst case scenarios and then following the lead of DHS, figured out ways to shore up such risks. Below is worst case scenario number 11;
?International Terrorists attack and hit that Experion Sewer Treatment by LAX in Southern CA. If they attack it by truck and drive a truck bomb into the giant Chlorine Tanks, the on shore breeze of 15 knots would send a Chorine tank into the city killing 100,000 to 500,000 people within a few hours and shut down the airport and freeway and if they did this just prior to rush hour, by the time the gas cloud reached inland there would be grid lock.?
We considered how would they go about this? Well we considered the need for assistance from the inside. Thus the attack would be easy for an employee of Experion once he made it through the gate he is home free to drive into the Chlorine tanks. The plant would be shut down immediately and everyone would evacuate with masks, but once the chlorine gas got out, it is too late.
This is only one of many of such plants, which are down wind from larger cities, generally they are located near water at the lower end of cities using gravity from the slope to move the waste water to the plant. Anywhere there is an onshore breeze where the treated water is sent to the ocean, that is a potential International Terrorist target.
We must also remember they understand the value of these plants and how they work because they do not have enough of them in their country and know the value to our population, where as our population or a domestic terrorist would never think of this because they take them for granted. And generally the smell of them keeps most people wanting to stay away.
Our Think Tank recommended extensive background checks of every worker at any type III sewer treatment plant. We also recommended that these facilities work with the city to develop a volunteer local watch patrol:
http://www.lancewinslow.org/ntw.shtml
Additionally we recommended more video surveillance and review of emergency training for shut down. Further we suggest landscape changes to include berms and ditches so no truck could get through to the tanks. Today thanks to the DHS most all of our plants have implemented many of these safety precautions and thus I say to you today, that just because you do not see the DHS at work, does not mean we are not being protected behind the scenes. Think on this in 2006.

Who Invented Stress? Stress Reduction & Self Improvement
Yes there is blame here, blame for all the ?ideas? that float around our minds inducing stressful feelings from subjective moral and social standards. I was asked the other day to run a class on ?Thinking outside the box? what a joke! I asked who built the BOX. What is the box? Where did it come from? Who does it restrict? Wow! What a load of limiting thoughts and we had not even got started.
What those limiting metaphors people because the whole of limiting psychology relies on them to keep you in a constant state of stress. ?They? seem to believe that society in general works better under pressure. They seem to think that unemployment is a ?bad? thing. All this causes stress, all this causes us to think in ways that promote the feelings that we are in constant fear of consequences of our actions. Even the word consequences have negative connotations why?
No this is not a political rant but a quick introduction to wake you from a slumber pattern that induces stress almost everyday in one form or another throughout your life. The reasons are plentiful the solutions are almost never given.
The difficulty many people have when it comes to reducing stress is that they pit their ?will? against a very big opposition. This opposition is made up of the media, perceived social acceptance, religious dogma and most powerful of all, your own subconscious.
Almost all the books relating to stress reduction involve attempts to ?think around? the problems that cause stress in the first place. And there is a deadly assumption there, that it is a ?problem? that causes stress.
That sort of advice and pseudo attempts to reduce (not combat, we avoid war metaphors since they imply defeat before we start) stress serves in increase the very situation we are trying to avoid! So let me help to dissolve the idea of stress in ways that you can relate to and re-program your own subconscious.
I have listed two basic approaches here that will help the idea that stress is?Ok I?m going to use a war metaphor here?but only to show you why it works.
Let?s assume that stress is an enemy and you are defending against it. It has more guns than you it has more troops (thoughts and feelings) than you. So what are you going to do? Well personally I?m going to stick my hands in the air and spend the rest of the war in a camp; point is I?m not in the fight anymore.
Now let me translate that for you in terms of ?non-conflict? language.
TIP ONE; I will assume that you work in an office where other people are also working with you. Go get a letter, memo or report of some description?got it?good. Now place it down where you can read it. Now focus on one FULL STOP DOT. Keep your eyes fixed on that full stop dot for the next five minuets at least. Sounds crazy? Maybe but just do it (don?t ?try? it?DO it). Over then next five minuets you will feel your self starting to dissolve the stress, amazing what such a small dot can do eh? Oh and while your at it your not allowed to feel guilty ok.
TIP TWO: For this you need to go sit somewhere that is going to be peaceful for you, no interruptions no disturbances.
Now you have to separate the stressful ?thoughts? from the ?feelings?. So have a think about ?what? stresses you first, then explore the ?feelings? it invoke within you. Now remember I mentioned that (limiting, conflicting war metaphor above) here is where it has relevance. Once you have separated the thoughts from the feelings I want you to ?give up?. That?s right mentally put up your hands and surrender to those feelings. Reduce the conflict, don?t attempt to fight it accept it fully and without judgment on self or others.
It is important for you to be absolutely non-judgmental here towards your self and other. You are going to spend the next ten minuets in total non-judgmental mind-state and when was the last time (if ever) you did that?
It is not your place during this simple exercise to list or think that your feelings are right or wrong, they are simply your feelings?they are neutral ground. They are your feelings and they need to be totally accepted by you. Once you have done this you will notice that the ?conflict? within you has ceased simply because in all honesty IT DOES NOT MATTER ANYMORE.
This is not to say you do not care or have been irresponsible because to say any of those things or anything else for that matter would be judging yourself and you?re not going to do that?are you?anymore.
I do hope this has or will help some of you and for those who feel it would not work for them?Take note? The practical application of this article is a THOUSAND TIMES MORE POWERFUL than the words it took to explain it.
